Broad Platform Support
How it Works
The first time you conduct a backup, it captures everything on your system. This initial seed will take longer – if you have large data volumes sometimes it’s faster to for us to send you a storage device and have you do it locally.
Each subsequent backup is much, much smaller. EVault looks for changed files only - and then looks within those files to identify blocks of data that have changed or new blocks that were created. This process is called Delta Processing (also known as front end deduplication).
It then compresses the data and encrypts it according to your specified encryption level. We go up to government grade encryption – the most secure you can get. The data remains encrypted during transit, and also when it arrives at the destined vault – no one but you will ever see the encryption key.
Once on the vault, we deduplicate data even further. Our vault holds your data in a storage pool and indexes your data. So even though you only sent over changed blocks, our system knows how to recreate the full backup when you need it. To restore your data, you simply select the data you want to restore and the product recreates a full backup automatically. You do not need to restore multiple incremental backups.
We also use bandwidth throttling to resolve performance issues during transmission. Bandwidth throttling limits the amount of bandwidth used by the application to minimize disruption during business hours.
Collectively, these features ensure that you minimize data transfer, reduce backup windows, minimize impact on other internet traffic – and limit storage space on the backend.
